Violin pedagogy for all

Here at International Minifiddlers we offer a distance education solution in violin studies developed by Caprice Oy, Finland. Violin pedagogy is our passion. That's why we provide training for violin pedagogues in the best elementary violin teaching method in the world: the Colourstrings Method. The program was started by Finnish violinist Maarit Rajamäki in the autumn 2012. Her mission has been to offer Finnish top-knowledge in classical music education to everybody - regardless of geographical location.

Caprice Oy has developed musical distance teaching in cooperation with distinguished violinist Pinchas Zukerman since 1997 and is a pioneer in the field in Finland. Our company provides expertise and services in distance teaching and consultation on the technical execution of distance classes. Through Minifiddlers video lessons you can study the Colourstrings Method systematically. In addition to video lessons, we offer a unique chance to get personal instruction from the Colourstrings Specialists through real-time distance lessons. For more information, please visit the contact page. Our current customers include music institutions, universities, teachers and musicians from all over the world.

Caprice is a partner in a 2-year Erasmus+ project PRESTO: Practices and Resources for Equipping Schools to Teach Music Online. The project is coordinated by Liszt Academy of Music Budapest. The other partners are Dublin City University, National Youth Choir of Scotland and Sing Ireland.

"The impact of 50 years of experience is impressive: Géza Szilvay assures us that there might be faster ways to create instrumentalists, but the balanced way of teaching paves the way for the young players to "take off" later in a very personal and creative way." Elisabeth Zeuthen Schneider, associate professor, RDAM, Denmark

"Thank you for all your doing for the violin class. Because of you and Géza we have been continuing taking classes and learning most professional teaching and training system in the world." Mr. Xia, Alaska

"With the Colourstrings teaching method being excellent and the Minifiddlers technical background team perfectly organized, Geza Szilvay has made it possible for a teacher to raise a highly skilled violin group anywhere in the world. With his professional presence and personal warmth Geza has made us forget about the physical distance during the classes." Igor Arias, M.A., Lapland Music Institute, Finland

Esa-Pekka Salonen - our patron

Esa-Pekka Salonen, one of the most successful and internationally renowned Finnish composers and conductors, has been a patron of International Minifiddlers since 2012. Understanding the importance of teaching art subjects, especially music, to children, Mr. Salonen thinks that musical education should become a normal part of a child's life, just like a daily meal. After all, learning to play music both develops child's brain and brings joy to their life.

Esa-Pekka Salonen is a strong proponent of the Colourstrings Method and sees that International Minifiddlers plays an important role in teaching it to the wider society. To hear more about his views on International Minifiddlers' work, violin pedagogy and the role of music in children's live in general, watch the discussion between Esa-Pekka Salonen and Géza Szilvay.
