Basic Introductory Course with Géza Szilvay

Dates: Monday 13th June - Sunday 19th June 2022, 11:00 a.m. - 2 p.m. Helsinki time (EEST UTC+3)

Distinguished violin pedagogue Professor Géza Szilvay will give 21 hours of real-time online training on the basics of the Colourstrings Method. The training is in English language, but simultaneous translation into French is provided by violin pedagogue Verna Kaunisto-Feodorow.

For who: The training is especially for violin and viola teachers and advanced students, and for those pedagogues who are responsible for teaching methodology in universities and conservatories. However, anyone who is interested in the subject is warmly welcome to participate. Previous knowledge of the Colourstrings Method is not necessary. We encourage you to keep your instrument at hand, so that you can try the exercises on your own during the training.

Kindly notice that this online course is primarily meant to be real-time training, and we don't automatically send a recording about the sessions afterwards. If you're not able to attend a certain session, we can arrange a review for you on request.

  • Special features of the Colourstrings Method
  • Developing the basic holds, basic movements and basic rhythms on open string
  • The bow hold
  • Connecting the movements of the two hands
  • Natural harmonics in first position
  • Introducing the one line system
  • Left hand stopping motion
  • Introducing the two line system
  • Pentachord melodies
  • Introducing the two line system within the five-line stave
  • New rhythms and bow division
  • Double stops
  • Pentatonic
  • Major and minor pentachord
  • New finger patterns
  • Major and minor hexachord
  • Mixed finger pattern
  • Diatony, major and minor melodies
  • Arpeggios and chords

Training time:

  • From Monday 13th June until 19th June 2022 (7 days): Every day at 11:00-14:00 (3 hours)

Price per person: 320 €

Places are limited and they will be reserved based on the order of application. The online sessions will be held by using Cisco Webex system, which is easy to use with your own device. We send more detailed practical information about the training for the participants before the event. If you don't receive the email, please check your spam folder.

Caprice Oy reserves the right to cancel the online course, if the minimum number of participants is not reached. In that case the participation fee will be refunded in full. Otherwise the fee is not reimbursable, and it cannot be used for any other online session or product. By buying the online course you give your consent to Caprice to record the event and to take pictures of it for archive, review and promotional purposes. Taking pictures, complete and partial recording, or broadcasting of the event by the participants is forbidden and constitutes an infringement of Caprice's intellectual property rights. Caprice reserves all rights to take legal actions against illegal recording and versions of the event.
